Artist BIO

Andrew Hutner

Andrew Hutner was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and worked professionally in that field while steadily developing his art practice, which has grown in visibility over the past decade. His engineering background informs his approach to painting, bringing an attention to structure, process, and experimentation into his visual work.

After early explorations in abstraction, Hutner developed his signature Hutner Green Monochrome, a meditative format that became the ground for further inquiries. From this foundation, the human figure emerged as a natural continuation of his abstract concerns, and he now works across painting, performance, sculpture, and conceptual art.

Hutner’s paintings are included in private collections, among them the collection of artist Nikko Sedgwick, stepson of landmark collector Ben Heller, who helped shape MoMA’s postwar holdings of Pollock, Rothko, and de Kooning. Hutner currently lives and works in Boston.
